In Linux Journal dated June 2009 the traditional Readers' Choice Award will be published, currently it is already available here.
In the subsection "Favorite Programming Language" Python is the winner:

Honorable Mention
C++ (19%)
Java (17%)
C (13%)
Perl (12%)
2010-02-09 another voting results have became available: 2009 LinuxQuestions.org Members Choice Awards has chose Python as Programming Language of the Year:
Python (27,59%), C++ (13,97%), Perl (13,79%), C (13,45%).
